Can you PLEASE stop doing this...
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of brain-based tips to help you move and feel great!
🧠
What:
Worrying about things doesn't change the outcome 👎
Shaming yourself for your mistakes doesn't help anyone 🤷♀️
Comparing yourself to others does nothing to get you closer to your goals 👀
So stop it now please 🙏
Why:
The self-affirmation theory* says we are naturally wired to view ourselves as good and capable people.
When something happens that makes us doubt these beliefs, it sets off a thought loop rooted in worry, shame, and criticism.
BUT!
Reminding ourselves of our values and strengths through positive affirmations can create different patterns that the brain can follow besides those nasty thought loops.
How:
The brain's remarkable ability to change and adapt can be used to change how we see ourselves.
Anecdotally, I can tell you I am living proof of this! Having an arsenal of affirmations at my disposal has allowed me to deeply integrate a trust in myself and my abilities, and a love an acceptance of myself despite my flaws and mistakes.
Here are some of my favourite affirmations:
"Even though I feel [say how you feel], I choose to love and accept myself as I am."
"I choose to focus on what I can control."
"I'm not perfect and I never will be, and I love myself as I am."
And here's the one we're using for the whole month of October on Move With Adell:
"The calmer I feel, the more powerful I am."
Get access to a whole variety of guided meditations based on these powerful affirmations as part of a Move With Adell subscription Join with a 7-day Free Trial!
I know it's so cheesy, but go on...say one of those affirmations...see how it feels 🥰
