Your environment may be why you're stuck
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of brain-based tips to help you move and feel great!
🧠
What:
It's the year of the Snake in the Chinese calendar, and one aspect of this is asking us to shed our old skins 🐍
I welcome it as an invitation to make a change.
Our environment massively influences our behaviour.
So if you want to make a change, first look at your environment.
Why:
🪜 Stairs? or Elevator? 🛗
Here's a "well, duh" statistic-without-stats for you:
Buildings where the stairs are easy to access have more people opting to take the stairs--instead of the elevator--
than buildings where the stairs are hidden away.
Well the same goes for any environment you are in and the behaviours you choose.
Our brains are evolved to be energy-efficient. But this is often what keeps us stuck.
So if you're trying to make a change, look at the environment you're in and how it affects your behaviour.
How:
It's as simple as looking at what in your environment* is keeping you stuck...
and altering that 😃
*Environment could be where you live or what people surround you, but it could also be:
your perception of yourself
your routines, such as your bedtime
your comfort levels with things that are new and unfamiliar
your mindset towards your abilities to make lasting change
As the old adage goes:
"If you can't do something about the big picture, do something about the picture you are in."
And remember, lasting changes usually come through small incremental steps, rather one big leap.
Be like a snake, and shed something you no longer need,
Adell xoxo
