Why aren't you obsessed with your extraocular muscles?!

"Brainy What-Why-How"

Your weekly nibble of brain-based tips to help you move and feel great!

🧠

What:

The stamina of your eye muscles may be what's holding you back in some skills.

I've just added

Why:

Let's try something:

Without moving your head, look up with your eyeballs and hold for 15 seconds.

....I'll wait....

Done? You did it?? Okay... how did you feel?

Did it start to make you feel kinda weird after a few seconds?

That's probably because your superior rectus -- a cute little extra-ocular muscle that pulls your eyeballs upwards -- is not used to holding that isometric contraction.

Yet -- that might be one of the muscle contractions you need to make in a handstand, or an arm balance, or a backbend...

and when that muscle fatigues, everything starts to feel harder.

How:

Training your eye muscles is really no different to training any other muscle group!

You just need to take a few minutes per day to do it.

I've got an â€‹Eye Muscles Stretch and Reset class on Move with adell that you can follow. Or simply take your eyes into different directions BESIDES how they probably are right now as you read these words.

I've also got a video....ugh....no, I haven't posted it...it's in my drafts on my various social media channels... about how to apply it to handstands -- I'll post it soon, so it's actually useful to you! (How unprofessional is this paragraph...sorry 😅)

You have beautiful eyes,

Adell xoxo
