Ever fixed your shoulder by teasing your hip? 👀
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of brain-based tips to help you move and feel great!
🧠
What:
You can ease up your cranky shoulder by.... getting down and dirty with your hips?
Yeah, I said it.
Mobilise your hips, and your shoulders might just moan in relief. 🤯
Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of inter-limb neural coupling – aka the science-y way of saying your limbs are in a long-distance relationship. 💌
Why:
Turns out, your limbs like to whisper sweet nothings to each other across your nervous system.
When one moves (say, your left hip), it sends a little love note to its long-lost partner on the other side (your right shoulder). 💃🕺
Why? Because we’re wired that way.
Quite literally — neurons that fire together, wire together 🧠
It’s part of the primal dance of walking, crawling, and not falling over in public.
How:
Each joint has a “partner in crime” — and shoulders and hips are a total power couple 👯♀️
So if your left shoulder is throwing a tantrum, and you’ve tried every massage, banded distraction, and TikTok rehab hack in existence…
try mobilising your right hip.
I know it sounds like sci-fi. 🛸
When I first found out about this, I wanted it not to work, just to prove it wrong.
But damn it, it works.
🧠 It’s just good ol’ brainy biomechanics.
True stories from my body’s weird love affairs:
• Right knee pain that stalked me for months? Cured by showing some TLC to my left elbow 😏
• Tight left hip flexor -- soothed by doing things to my right shoulder.
• Lingering left big toe pain (courtesy of one aggressive bed frame)? Sorted out by mobilising my right thumb 🤷♀️
It’s weird. It’s wonderful. It’s annoyingly effective.
