What:

Coordination is an overlooked area of movement practices. 

But like its more popular compatriots of movement (flexibility, strength, and mobility), it can be trained! 


Why:

Coordination is just being able to combine many individual movements (like walking).

But in order to achieve new skills, such as Peacock Pose (our new focus on â€‹Move With Adell​!) it's helpful to be able to coordinate, say: 

rounding through your upper back to get your elbows in place:


while also arching through your neck and low back to get lift off: 


while also breathing, balancing, and trying not to wet yourself. 



How:

How to train coordination? 

First, isolate the individual movements, such as doing cat/cow ONLY through the thoracic spine (the rib cage part.) 

Then, when you gain better movement control of each joint or area, you can start to put them together in new ways, such as doing a segmented spinal wave that I (try to!) demonstrate here. 

This way, you're coordinating your spinal movements in NEW ways, rather than the same old cat/cow which may not be helpful for something like peacock pose!
