Fear wants to boss you around. Wanna clap back? 👊

"Brainy What-Why-How"

Your weekly nibble of science-backed goodness to help you move better and feel unstoppable.

🧠

What:

Fear is your brain’s drama-queen way of keeping you from licking power sockets or dating your ex again.

It's totally healthy to fear actual danger.

What's not so healthy is letting fear override common sense and facts.

Examples:

• “Yes, lifting weights gives me rock-solid bones, revved-up metabolism, juicy mobility, and makes me look hot, but I'm afraid of getting bulky” 🤣

• “Sure, the drive to the gym is statistically wayyyyy riskier than box jumps, but I'm afraid of hitting my shins and spending two whole weeks wearing a plaster, so I won't do this awesome exercise." 🤦🏻‍♀️

Why:

Some clever person once said something like:

"Humans are emotional beings that happen to think. But we like to believe we are thinking beings that happen to feel."

Meaning: logic is only the tiptop of the iceberg for us. The rest of the icy bulk: feeeeeelings.

Luckily, we’ve got the prefrontal cortex—the brain’s built-in BS detector.

And yes, like a muscle, it works better the more you use it.

Feel your feelings—have the full Netflix drama in your head if you want—but for the love of humanity, don’t put them in the driver's seat.

Feelings sit at the kid’s table with a juice box 🧃

How:

How do we keep fear from running the whole damn show?

Old-school magic:

🧃pause,

🧃breathe,

🧃ask, “What am I feeling? What do I think I should do? Would this stand up in court, or would a jury roll their eyes so hard they pull a muscle?”
