How "brain hacks" work
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of science-backed goodness to help you move better and feel unstoppable.
🧠
What:
Your brain is like that hot mess friend who somehow always pulls it off—messy bun, mis-buttoned shirt, late to brunch...
but still managing life like a genius.
It’s immensely clever but only spends energy when it absolutely has to.
Why:
To save energy for important stuff (like keeping you alive and overthinking texts), your brain runs on the same trusty pattern:
input → interpretation → output
So if you feed it a spicy little input—like certain breathing techniques, eye movements, or sensory input—
you can light up (and get an output of) other functions handled by that same brain area. Wow word salad!!
Okay here's an example to make it make sense:
The cerebellum.
It helps with balance and coordination…
but it also gives you better extensor tone. That means stronger glutes, taller posture, and general "I've got this" energy....
How:
Try this: do a simple yoga flow — or just walk in a straight line — while a resistance band pulls you sideways (like I do in this short video).
The balance challenge means cerebellum wakes up like, “Oooh, drama! Let’s engage!”
and suddenly—bam—your glutes are also firing like they’ve had three espressos and a hype playlist.
No squats, no gym bros, just a well-placed wobble and a brain that’s into it.
